If you are looking to catch up on the Final Fantasy VII trilogy on your Nintendo Switch 2, now is the time to check the eShop. As reported by Kotaku, both Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth have received significant discounts, dropping to a fraction of their usual retail cost. These titles, which arrived on the Switch 2 platform earlier this year, are currently available for some of the lowest prices seen since their launch on the hardware.

Starting now and running through November 17, players can purchase the digital version of Final Fantasy VII Remake for $8.00, marked down from its typical $40 price tag. In a surprising pricing quirk, the larger sequel, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is currently priced at $7.50, which is significantly lower than its standard $50 retail price. While it remains unclear why the older Remake is priced fifty cents higher than the larger Rebirth, the current sale offers a substantial discount for both games. Whether you are buying the digital eShop versions or seeking out physical copies, which function as game key cards on the system, these price points represent a major opportunity for new players.

Regarding performance, Square Enix has put in considerable work to ensure these visually demanding RPGs run effectively on Nintendo’s newer hardware. The ports maintain a solid 30fps framerate without suffering from extreme resolution downgrades. However, there are trade-offs when comparing these versions to the high-fidelity experiences found on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC. Specifically, intricate details such as Cloud’s signature spiky hair do not match the graphical polish seen on those more powerful platforms. Despite these visual differences, the ports are described as performing well enough for a portable experience.

Why it matters

For Switch 2 owners, these prices are likely the lowest we will see for these massive RPGs. With the final entry in the trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, slated for an April 2027 release, this sale provides an affordable entry point for newcomers or those wanting the portability of the Switch 2 platform. It is important to note that these versions lack cross-save functionality, unlike some other cross-platform titles such as Cyberpunk 2077. Consequently, players who already own the series on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC will find little incentive to rebuy these versions unless they strictly prioritize playing on the go. For players who exclusively use the Switch 2, these titles are an easy recommendation and an ideal way to prepare for the conclusion of the trilogy next year.
