Nintendo has officially rolled out version 2.0.0 for Pikmin 4, a significant update that lays the groundwork for the game’s future on newer hardware and expands its content offerings. As reported by My Nintendo News, this patch is now live for both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Getting ready for the Switch 2

The primary focus of this update is adding support for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game. Players looking to make the leap to the newer console will see a new “About the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” option on the title screen when running the software on the new hardware. This menu serves as a direct link to the Nintendo eShop, where users can access the upgrade pack. According to the notes, those who purchase this upgrade will be able to begin playing their enhanced version starting November 12, 2026.

Dandori Academy and general fixes

Beyond the hardware-specific preparations, the update paves the way for the incoming Dandori Academy expansion. The patch notes clarify that an active internet connection will be necessary for players to participate in exams and download the specific stages distributed for this new content.

While Nintendo noted that this update includes fixes to “improve the gameplay experience” for all users—regardless of whether they are on the original Switch or the Switch 2—the company has not provided specific details on exactly which bugs or performance issues were addressed. Additionally, this version 2.0.0 update, along with the new demo for the Switch 2 Edition and Dandori Academy, is now available to download through the Nintendo eShop.

Why it matters

For current players, this update is a mandatory step if you plan on checking out the new Dandori Academy content. Even if you aren’t planning an immediate move to the Switch 2, the general gameplay improvements suggest there are under-the-hood refinements that should make the overall experience smoother on your current console.

If you are interested in the upcoming expansion, make sure your internet connection is stable, as the game requires a network link to access the academy’s exams and stages. Keep an eye on your eShop downloads to ensure the demo or upgrade pack is ready for the November 12 launch.
