Capcom is removing paid Character Edit Vouchers from Monster Hunter Wilds and will make appearance edits free and unlimited once the Ascendance expansion arrives in 2027. On December 3, 2026, paid Character Edit and Palico Edit Vouchers will be taken off sale, and every player will receive 10 of each for free.

What changes on December 3

From December 3, the paid vouchers will no longer be sold on any storefront. Every player will automatically receive 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers at no cost, which covers the period until unlimited free editing arrives.

Players who already bought vouchers will not see those purchases refunded, as Capcom has not announced refunds. Instead, they will receive a Special Thank-You Pendant Set, containing the Heavenly Hog and Beelzeboar pendants, which will be granted automatically from December 3.

Unlimited free edits with Ascendance

When Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance launches in 2027, a free Version 2 update will let players re-edit their hunter’s appearance as many times as they like, free of charge. This applies to the base game as well, so players do not need to buy the expansion to get unlimited edits. Capcom has not yet given an exact date for Ascendance.

Switch 2 version

The change also lines up with the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds, which launches on December 4, 2026, one day after the voucher change. That version will include 10 vouchers of each type from launch, so Switch 2 players start on the same footing as everyone else.

Why Capcom is doing this

Monster Hunter Wilds launched in February 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC with record-breaking sales, but player activity slowed in the months that followed, partly because of inconsistent PC performance. The game has struggled to hold players in the way Monster Hunter World did, and Capcom has been working to win players back with a price cut, a generous demo and the upcoming Ascendance expansion.

Paid character edits became one of the most criticised parts of Wilds’ monetisation. Charging real money to change a hunter’s look, a feature many players see as basic, frustrated the community from launch. Removing it is a clear goodwill gesture ahead of the expansion and the Switch 2 release.

Why it matters

For current players, the change means no more paying to adjust a character’s appearance. The 10 free vouchers cover most needs until Version 2 makes editing unlimited, and anyone who paid before gets a cosmetic reward, though not a refund.

For players returning to Wilds or starting fresh on Switch 2, it removes one of the game’s most unpopular friction points. Combined with the upcoming expansion, it gives lapsed hunters a better reason to come back, and it suggests Capcom is listening as it tries to rebuild momentum for the series.
