God of War Laufey Reveals Serpent’s Bow as Pre-Orders Open

Santa Monica Studio has revealed a key part of God of War Laufey’s combat: the Serpent’s Bow, a ranged weapon for protagonist Faye. The reveal came with pre-order details, and pre-orders opened on September 29 ahead of the game’s February 16, 2027, launch on PlayStation 5.

A new protagonist

God of War Laufey follows Faye, Kratos’ wife, whose death sets up the events of God of War (2018). In Laufey, she fights to liberate and survive the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods. It is the first mainline God of War game built around a protagonist other than Kratos, following God of War Ragnarök in 2022.

The Serpent’s Bow

According to the PlayStation Blog post announcing the details, the Serpent’s Bow is designed to work alongside Faye’s sword rather than replace it. Players can weave arrow shots into melee combos, with quick shots able to interrupt enemy attacks before Faye returns to her sword strikes.

Holding the fire button charges precision shots that target weak points and disrupt enemy movement. Faye can also nock up to five arrows at once for burst damage. Her arrow types include rapid-fire, explosive and multi-targeting variants, and customizable bow scales change both the weapon’s appearance and its performance stats.

Pre-order bonuses

Pre-orders include the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves cosmetic appearance and an in-game resource pack. Some items unlock through story progression rather than at the start of the game.

Digital Deluxe Edition

The Digital Deluxe Edition adds a Dark Alchemy armor set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, Dark Alchemy Catalyst, an in-game resource pack, a digital mini artbook and the official soundtrack. Pricing for the Digital Deluxe Edition had not been listed at the time of the announcement, so players should check the PlayStation Store for their region’s price.

Release date and platform

God of War Laufey launches on February 16, 2027, on PlayStation 5. Santa Monica Studio has not announced a PC version at this stage. Previous God of War games came to PC after their PlayStation releases, but any such plans for Laufey have not been confirmed.

Why it matters

Laufey is a major test for the series. By putting a new protagonist at the center with her own weapons and combat identity, Santa Monica is exploring whether God of War can continue beyond Kratos’ direct story. The Serpent’s Bow suggests the team is building Faye’s combat around a fluid mix of ranged and melee attacks rather than reskinning Kratos’ toolkit.

For PlayStation 5 owners, including the series’ large fan base in the Gulf, the February date gives a clear target. Players who want the bonus armor and resources can pre-order now, while those unsure about the new direction can wait for more gameplay footage and reviews closer to launch.
