If you are holding out for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 6, you might be waiting until the early months of 2027. A new report from GamesBeat, citing four anonymous industry sources familiar with Rockstar’s internal plans, indicates that the studio is targeting a release for PC within the first quarter of 2027. These sources requested anonymity to protect their professional relationships, and Rockstar has not officially confirmed the timeline. A representative for the developer did not respond to requests for comment regarding the report prior to its publication.
While Rockstar has not provided an official PC release date, the window suggests a relatively short gap between the initial console launch and the arrival on PC. With the game set to hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 19th November, a Q1 2027 release would mean PC players could access the title only a few months after console owners. This represents a significantly tighter turnaround than previous Rockstar titles. For context, the PC version of GTA 5 arrived approximately 19 months after its original 2013 console release, while Red Dead Redemption 2 followed its October 2018 console debut with a PC launch in November 2019.
The push toward a 2027 release date may be linked to the future of the franchise’s multiplayer component. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy noted in an interview earlier this year that while the initial launch will drive engagement, there is an expectation for a bigger surge in activity in 2027 when the new multiplayer mode arrives. This aligns with Rockstar’s history, as a large portion of the long-term revenue for GTA 5 has been driven by the success of GTA Online. Establishing a solid PC player base by Q1 2027 would provide a strong foundation for this rollout.
Amid these developments, Rockstar continues to navigate challenges. The company has faced high-profile security issues, including a prolific leaker known as CyberLeek, who claimed to possess a playable build of the game. These incidents have forced Rockstar to issue formal statements and reportedly seek subpoenas against platforms like Discord to identify those responsible for the leaks. Simultaneously, Rockstar Games is currently involved in a final tribunal hearing with the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain regarding the firing of 31 Rockstar North employees, an action the union alleges was part of a company-wide anti-union initiative.
Why it matters
For the average gamer, this report serves as the first concrete insight into the PC release timeline. While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously acknowledged the significant demand for a PC version, he has maintained that the company prefers staggered, platform-specific release windows rather than simultaneous launches. Players should keep their expectations measured until Rockstar provides official verification. For now, interested fans should continue to monitor announcements from Rockstar and Take-Two while remaining aware that even potential leaks and industry reports remain unconfirmed by the studio itself.
