If you were planning to grab the latest premium merchandise for the upcoming God of War Laufey, you should know that your purchase will not include a copy of the game. According to Eurogamer, which cites an official update on the PlayStation Blog, the new collector’s box is being marketed as a standalone physical gear drop rather than a complete game bundle.

This shift in strategy represents a growing trend in the industry where high-end collector editions are decoupled from the software itself. By omitting the game disc or digital voucher from the package, the manufacturer is focusing exclusively on providing tangible memorabilia for dedicated fans of the franchise. For players who wish to experience the title on launch day, this means the software must be purchased separately from this merchandise set.

What’s in the box

Retailing for £129.99, $149.99, or €149.99, the set centers on an eight-inch statue depicting the characters Faye, Phranque, and Rue as they engage in a confrontation against Begtse’s soldiers. According to reporting that references details from ScreenRant, the Phranque figure features a specific light-up element that activates once the statue is connected to a USB power source.

Beyond the primary statue, the box includes a 51-card Oracle Deck. Each card in this deck features custom illustrations by artist Megan Lara, which Sony describes as a beautiful representation of the journey through the Everywhen. The set also comes with a mini artbook that collects concept art focusing on the game’s various characters, creatures, and environments. This collection was hand-selected by the internal art team at Santa Monica Studio to provide fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the visual development of the project.

Availability and timing

Sony has confirmed that the collector’s box will be sold in highly limited quantities exclusively through the official PlayStation store where available. The release is scheduled for February 16, 2027, which aligns with the global launch of God of War Laufey on PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are currently open, though the company has stated that these sales will only last while supplies last.

In the lead-up to this launch, the project has seen some public discussion. Last month, The Last of Us director Bruce Straley commented on the upcoming game, though he later noted that his remarks were used out of context and for clickbait after he expressed his thoughts on the state of modern triple-A blockbusters.

Why it matters

For players, this release marks another significant instance of high-end collector’s gear launching as a standalone merchandise pack rather than a traditional game bundle. This trend has been seen previously with other major titles, such as the £349.99 GTA 6 Collector’s Box due on November 19, and previous collector’s editions for Bungie’s Destiny 2 that excluded the necessary expansion codes.

Because these units are strictly limited and sold directly through PlayStation, regional availability will vary. If you are eyeing this set for your shelf, it is advisable to check the direct-to-consumer store for your specific territory early to confirm if shipping is supported in your area, as highly limited batches often sell out rapidly once pre-order windows open.
