The indie game scene is no stranger to imitation, and the upcoming title Escape the Walls is dealing with the reality of platform-based clones. As reported by Game Rant, multiple rip-off versions of the game have already appeared on Roblox, just days after its first gameplay reveal.

The Rush to Clone

Developer Pandorio Games first showcased the gameplay for Escape the Walls on October 14. The concept is straightforward: players must punch through walls and collect rubble to escape a prison-like chamber. Despite the title only recently hitting Steam for wishlisting on October 18, clones using near-identical names—such as “Escape the Wall”—have already surfaced on Roblox. Some creators have even admitted to using AI tools like Claude to expedite the development of these copycat experiences.

Pandorio Games, which has historically focused on mobile development, has not yet issued an official comment regarding these unauthorized clones. The studio is currently expanding its footprint on PC, having launched a demo for its co-op physics game Caravan Bazar earlier in October.

A Pattern on Roblox

Roblox remains a massive hub for creative projects, hosting everything from original hits like the viral farming sim Grow a Garden to major brand collaborations with franchises like Transformers and Star Wars. However, the platform’s open nature frequently allows for the rapid appearance of games that mirror the mechanics of viral indie titles. While some games on the platform achieve record-breaking player counts, the speed at which copycats materialize remains a significant challenge for indie developers who have yet to officially launch their projects.

Why it matters

For players, this situation highlights a common frustration in the modern gaming landscape: the difficulty of discerning the original, intended experience from rushed, AI-assisted imitations. If you are interested in the actual Escape the Walls experience, it is important to verify the developer and source through their official Steam page rather than jumping into the first search result on Roblox.

This phenomenon of rapid cloning often leads to market saturation with lower-quality experiences, potentially confusing players and diluting the initial impact of an indie studio’s hard work. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if Pandorio Games addresses the platform clones or focuses entirely on their Steam release, and whether Roblox will take any action regarding these copycat titles.
