Remedy Entertainment has brought Control back with Control Resonant, an action RPG sequel to the 2019 supernatural action game that built a devoted following. Announced at The Game Awards in December 2025, it launched digitally on September 24, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with physical editions following on October 15. Here is what players need to know.

Release date, price and platforms

Control Resonant is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as GeForce NOW. A Mac version is planned for later in 2026. The Standard Edition costs $59.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99; the Deluxe Edition included 48 hours of early access from September 22 and extra items such as the AWE Mission Outfit and a starter resource bundle. There is no Nintendo Switch 2 version announced.

New hero, new city

The sequel moves the spotlight from Jesse Faden to her brother Dylan Faden, who has his own paranatural abilities. Jesse remains important to the story, but Dylan is the playable character. The setting also changes: instead of the shifting halls of the Oldest House, the game takes place in Manhattan, built as large, distinct zones rather than a single open world.

Control Resonant is a direct sequel that follows the events of the original, but Remedy designed it so newcomers can start here without having played Control first. Returning players will still recognize the Federal Bureau of Control, its strange paranatural threats and the studio’s habit of mixing live-action footage and dark humor into the story.

What changes in combat

The biggest shift is combat. Where Control was a third-person shooter, Resonant pivots heavily to melee. Dylan’s weapon, the Aberrant, can shapeshift into several forms, including hammers, blades and scythes. The game also leans fully into RPG systems, with character stats, multiple talent trees and customizable weapons.

Bosses matter more too. Defeating Resonant bosses grants new supernatural abilities, and progression depends on your build, so players cannot unlock everything in a single playthrough. The main story is estimated at about 25 to 35 hours, with more content for completionists.

Why it matters

Control earned its cult status through tight action, environmental mystery and Remedy’s unsettling atmosphere. Resonant keeps that tone but asks fans to accept a very different combat style, which will decide how well it lands with long-time players.

For newcomers, the lower $59.99 price and the fresh protagonist make it an easier entry point than the original, and players who prefer a boxed copy only need to wait until October 15.
