Nintendo marked 40 years of The Legend of Zelda with a dedicated Direct on September 8, 2026, led by series producer Eiji Aonuma. The 30-minute show confirmed a date for the Ocarina of Time remake and set out a year-long programme of products, events and media running into 2027. Full details are collected on Nintendo’s zelda40th.nintendo.com site.

Games and hardware

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a full remake of the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic, launches on November 5, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. It adds full voice acting in cutscenes, a manual jump, dashing, full camera control and an expanded Hyrule Castle Town.

A Zelda 40th Anniversary special edition Switch 2 console and matching Pro Controller release on October 29, 2026. New amiibo of Young Link and Young Zelda follow in 2027; they unlock N64-style Link and Zelda masks to wear in the remake.

Merchandise

Nintendo showed real ocarinas, including a standard instrument and an electric model made by Hori, plus a new Lego set featuring adult Link and Epona. Prices for these items and for the special edition hardware were not given during the presentation.

Film, music and events

The live-action film is titled simply The Legend of Zelda and is dated for April 30, 2027, with updates to be shared through the Nintendo Today app.

A live orchestral tour starts in Japan in January 2027, with further dates in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Ticket sales begin in September 2026. Nintendo also premiered a newly composed 40th anniversary orchestral theme.

At the Nintendo Museum in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, special Zelda-themed tickets valid for about a year are being introduced, along with a history board installation and a Master Sword photo spot from November 5, 2026. The museum’s Super Family Restaurant is set to open in fall 2026.

Availability in the GCC

Nintendo did not announce specific Middle East plans during the Direct. The Ocarina of Time remake is a Switch 2 game and should be available wherever Switch 2 software is sold, but regional stock and pricing for the special edition console, amiibo and merchandise had not been confirmed at the time of writing. None of the announced orchestral tour dates are in the region so far.

Why it matters

For players, the key dates are October 29 for the special edition hardware, November 5 for the remake, and April 30, 2027 for the film. If you plan to buy the anniversary console, check with local retailers early, as limited editions tend to sell out.

For Nintendo, a celebration stretching from autumn 2026 into 2027 keeps Zelda in the spotlight through the film’s release, and it shows how the company now uses its biggest franchises across games, hardware, film, music and physical venues at the same time.
