Microsoft is not denying reports that it could remove day-one game releases from Xbox Game Pass as early as spring 2027, but it has not confirmed anything either. After details of a possible subscription overhaul leaked, the company said it has no changes to announce and no finalised plans, a cautious response that leaves the question open.

What the leak claims

The claims come from ResetEra moderator Slayven, who cited a source with a record of accurate information about Game Pass. According to the leak, a restructured Game Pass would arrive between February and April 2027. It would include an ad-supported tier at $12.99 a month and an ad-free tier at $19.99 a month or $239.99 a year. The key change is that new games would stop arriving on Game Pass on day one, either being limited to the higher tier or removed from the service at launch entirely, depending on which version of the leak proves accurate.

The leak also describes separate paid add-ons for features such as cloud streaming and family sharing, with online multiplayer potentially sold on its own as well, with add-ons starting at $5.99. Another well-known leaker, NateDrake, said the source had knowledge of certain Game Pass plans but did not corroborate the pricing or the 2027 timing.

What Microsoft said

A Microsoft spokesperson said: “We don’t have any changes to announce today or plans that have been finalized,” adding that the company regularly tests different offerings in different markets. That neither confirms nor rules out the reported changes.

How Game Pass works today

Since a major restructure in October 2025, Game Pass has been split into Essential, Premium and Ultimate tiers on console, alongside PC Game Pass. Day-one access to new first-party games is concentrated in the top tier and PC Game Pass, and Ultimate’s price rose significantly in that change. Microsoft has also discussed advertising as a way to offset costs, with Xbox chief Asha Sharma raising the idea publicly, so an ad-supported tier would fit that direction.

Game Pass is officially available in several GCC markets, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, where prices are set locally and can differ from US pricing. Any change would likely roll out globally, though regional pricing and timing could vary.

Why it matters

Day-one access has been the main selling point of Game Pass since Microsoft began putting its biggest releases into the service at launch. Removing it, or moving it to a more expensive tier, would change what subscribers get for their money and could push more players back toward buying games individually.

For players in the GCC who rely on Game Pass for new releases, nothing changes yet. The practical step is to watch for an official announcement before making long-term decisions, such as buying a multi-month subscription code, since the value of those plans could shift if the leak proves accurate.
