Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Beginner Guide: Core Systems and First Priorities
Last updated August 30, 2026
Start with these practical priorities, then return as progression and mission routes open up.
Core systems
- Campaign missions span Korea, New York, Paris, and Mumbai.
- Multiplayer launches with 12 new 6v6 maps plus large-scale vehicle combat.
- DMZ combines looting, negotiation, combat, betrayal, and extraction.
- Ballistic Authority aligns aiming, handling, audio, visibility, stance, and trajectory.
Quick-start checklist
- Use your recorded beta preferences as a starting point, then recheck sensitivity, field of view, and stance controls in the release build.
- Learn the difference between compact 6v6 routes and large-scale sightlines.
- Enter DMZ with a clear extraction condition instead of chasing every fight.
- Track official patch notes because beta balance and launch values can change.
Prepare separately for 6v6 and DMZ
The official announcement distinguishes twelve new 6v6 maps, larger vehicle-based battles and DMZ extraction play. They should not share a single set of assumptions about routes or objectives.
- For conventional multiplayer, choose one learning goal per session: reading an objective, recognizing a crossing or controlling an engagement distance.
- For extraction play, agree with your squad on the purpose of the run and a point at which you will prioritize leaving over another fight.
- Separate personal control preferences from balance advice. Sensitivity can be personal; weapon recommendations need evidence from the current build.
- Treat beta notes as historical observations. Recheck the release build before copying a loadout or route described during testing.
This guide does not supply unverified map callouts, launch weapon rankings or security-setting instructions. Use Activision’s current platform requirements when preparing your PC.
Early mistakes to avoid
Do not spend scarce resources or limited time automatically, and do not repeat one tactic when enemy state or the environment changes the better answer.
This guide will be updated after launch when final numbers, balance, and progression details can be verified.
