After five years of early access, Valheim players can finally ditch the complex button combinations required for dodging. Following consistent community feedback, the developers have introduced an official alternate dodge keybinding in the latest patch, allowing for a single-tap configuration that simplifies movement during intense combat encounters.
Customizing Your Controls
For half a decade, dodging in Valheim required a multi-key input: holding the block button while pressing jump and a directional key on keyboard, or a stick-and-button combination on controller. The new update allows players to remap this to a single key, alongside expanded options to rebind items on the hotbar and radial wheel. The patch also introduces an accessibility setting to toggle blocking and adds a long-requested option in the gameplay settings to skip the intro cinematic.
Additional Performance and Gameplay Fixes
Beyond input changes, the update addresses several technical concerns. Players had previously reported issues with the game’s cheat-flagging system incorrectly marking items or characters, which the developers have now patched. Other improvements include optimized GPU performance when tessellation is disabled, more accurate heightmap shadow calculations, and a fix for a bug that caused player characters to fail to save correctly on remote servers.
While the patch is currently live on PC, the developers noted that it will require a few days to propagate across all platforms. Players looking to adjust their muscle memory for the new dodge configuration can find the updated options in the game’s settings menu now.
