4A Games is shipping a fully wearable, life-size Spartan helmet with the Metro 2039 Collector’s Edition, marking a departure from the plastic filler that has plagued premium game boxes in recent years. The helmet—cast directly from the game’s 3D model and belonging to the new protagonist, The Wanderer—features a complete visor, battle damage detail, and an integrated breathing mask.

What’s Actually in the Box

4A Games revealed the Collector’s Edition at Gamescom this week, with Metro 2039 itself launching in February 2027 under publisher Deep Silver. The helmet isn’t a decorative replica; it’s described as a solid, wearable piece designed to capture the dark atmosphere of the series. Unlike typical collector’s items, this is cast as a direct response to the low-quality plastic merchandise that has become standard at premium price points.

The edition will be strictly limited in production, with pre-orders opening later this year. The developer is positioning scarcity as part of the value proposition—if you want one, you’ll need to act fast.

Why This Matters

Metro has always leaned hard into atmosphere and immersion. The series is built on survival horror in the irradiated tunnels of Moscow, where every detail—environmental, narrative, audio—reinforces a sense of isolation and danger. A wearable helmet that directly mirrors an in-game item extends that immersion into physical space, which tracks with what the franchise is trying to do.

Collector’s editions have become a dumping ground for studios trying to justify premium prices. Action figures with paint defects, statues that gather dust, replica weapons in cheap plastic—the formula has worn thin. Metro 2039’s approach signals that at least this studio understands why fans actually buy these boxes: not to display shelf clutter, but to own something that feels real and connected to the game’s world.

The Wanderer is a new protagonist for the series, and the helmet is his defining visual. Including it as a tangible artifact is a smart way to make players feel invested in this character before they even launch the game. It’s also a statement about what tone 4A Games is aiming for—dark enough that even the merchandise looks battle-worn.

What to Watch

When pre-orders open later this year, the asking price will be the real test. A quality wearable helmet has material cost and manufacturing complexity that cheap plastic doesn’t; whether Deep Silver prices it fairly or tries to exploit the limited-run angle will signal a lot about confidence in the product. Players waiting for that reveal should also pay attention to early unboxing coverage—if the final helmet quality matches the promise, this sets a new bar for what Collector’s Editions should actually contain.
