The Blood of Dawnwalker offers players the freedom to sprint straight to the final confrontation with Brencis, the Knyaz holding your family captive, but the game will punish that choice mercilessly. Rebel Wolves designed the game to give you up to 30 in-game days to reach Greifberg Castle, but speedrunning to the endgame encounter reveals a deliberately brutal gauntlet meant to force players into proper preparation.

What Happens If You Rush

Once you hit the prologue’s end, you can set a waypoint directly for Greifberg Castle. The southern approach is grueling—enemy difficulty scales sharply as you travel, and even basic wolves become serious threats with starter equipment. Reaching Svartrau, Vale Sangora’s main city, and pushing toward the castle triggers a point-of-no-return warning, signaling you’re about to enter the endgame.

However, the actual final boss isn’t waiting inside. Upon entering Greifberg Castle, an entirely separate boss fight initiates first—a pre-boss encounter so mechanically demanding that even on the easiest difficulty, low-level gear and unmastered combat fundamentals guarantee failure. The fight features multiple health bar segments, and underleveled players will likely find themselves dead before progressing far.

There’s an even more brutal shortcut: defeating Brencis during the prologue itself, immediately after escaping the mines, triggers the game’s true ending sequence with no healing window. This collapses the final boss into an immediate second stage of an essentially continuous fight, leaving you facing it without recovery opportunities.

Why This Design Matters

The Blood of Dawnwalker’s structure emphasizes player agency within a time-based narrative framework. The 30-day window isn’t a hard deadline forcing progression—it’s a soft boundary that enables choice. By making the final confrontation technically available from hour two but practically impossible without preparation, Rebel Wolves creates meaningful consequences for speedrunning without locking players out of that playstyle.

This mirrors how action RPGs traditionally gate content through mechanical skill checks rather than artificial barriers. The pre-boss encounter teaches players that stats and gear matter, but so does understanding the combat system itself. A competent player with proper equipment might succeed; a rusher with neither will not.

The secret ending unlock tied to the prologue-stage Brencis fight adds another layer—it rewards extreme skill and planning, giving speedrunners a legitimate (if wildly difficult) win condition rather than just a dead-end. This respects player agency while maintaining challenge.

What’s Next

Players will likely discover more of these high-difficulty shortcuts and sequence breaks as the community digs deeper. Whether anyone actually completes the game via these brutal early-game rushes remains to be seen—but Rebel Wolves has clearly built the systems to support that ambition, even if it expects most players to take the longer, more forgiving path.
