Time limits in video games are usually a lightning rod for controversy, but a new indie project is leaning directly into the stress of the clock. Studio Zubio has officially entered the ring with their upcoming stealth RPG, Bunderkin: The Ocular Eclipse, which utilizes a three-day time loop mechanic clearly inspired by the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.

A Loop in the System

The premise places players in control of Beedee, a character desperate to attend a “once-in-a-lifetime” event known as the Ocular Eclipse festival. However, a nefarious villain is plotting to freeze the event in place, forcing Beedee to use a mysterious device to reset time and attempt to thwart the antagonist’s plans. While the concept of strict time management in games like The Blood of Dawnwalker has recently faced significant backlash from parts of the player base, Studio Zubio is doubling down on the tension, explicitly drawing inspiration from stealth stalwarts like Metal Gear Solid and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell to complement the recurring cycle.

The project has already seen massive interest from the community. According to its Kickstarter campaign, the game has already smashed its initial goal of $44,444, raising nearly $175,000 as of the latest reports. This rapid funding suggests that despite recent discourse surrounding time-gated mechanics, there is still a strong appetite for titles that challenge players to master a ticking clock.

Why it matters

For players, the success of Bunderkin highlights a growing divide in the gaming community regarding how pressure and “FOMO” (fear of missing out) are used to craft narrative experiences. While some feel time limits restrict the freedom to explore, others view them as a defining mechanic that forces tactical decision-making and creative problem-solving. If you enjoy games that reward repetitive experimentation and stealth-based puzzle-solving, this is a title to keep on your radar.

Currently, there is no set release date for Bunderkin: The Ocular Eclipse. However, those interested in tracking its development can head over to its Steam page to wishlist the game and monitor future updates from Studio Zubio. Given that the game is still in the crowdfunding and development phase, players should keep an eye out for potential demo releases or further announcements regarding regional availability and platform support as the project matures.
