Blizzard’s classic MMO revival is taking shape. At BlizzCon, the World of Warcraft: Forever development team shared specifics on the reimagined Azeroth experience, including new zones, visual upgrades, and how the game will handle player progression and monetization.

Lead game designer Tim Jones and lead software engineer Nora Mills walked through the team’s vision for Forever, which locks progression at level 60 and introduces new content zones like Mount Hyjal and Riverglades. The developers have rebuilt Azeroth’s lighting and particle systems from the ground up, a visual refresh that marks a tangible shift from the original classic experience.

New Content and Progression

The level 60 cap is intentional, according to the interview. The team sees the hard ceiling as beneficial for players, though they stopped short of detailed explanation in the public discussion. Beyond zone design, Blizzard is revisiting the leveling experience itself, introducing systems like camping buffs and changes to social interactions to reshape how players progress through early and mid-game content.

New dungeons are part of the roadmap; the team discussed specifics around Hall of Thanes, though exact mechanics and rewards remain under wraps. Gear and item design will reflect the new zones and systems.

Live Service and Add-Ons

On the monetization front, the Skyborne elf race will carry a price tag—a detail that signals how Blizzard plans future cosmetic or race releases, though the exact cost wasn’t disclosed in the public summary. The team fielded questions about pricing expectations for future content drops.

Add-on support is confirmed for Forever, a feature tied directly to player investment in tooling and UI customization. The developers also addressed multi-faction and PvP realm design, suggesting both remain core to the experience.

What’s Next

When asked about future classes—including the long-requested Tinkerer—the team acknowledged the community ask but didn’t commit to a timeline or feature list. The BlizzCon interview touched on the broader roadmap, though specifics on how quickly new content will roll out remain sparse.

The Forever project signals Blizzard’s commitment to preserving a snapshot of World of Warcraft while modernizing its visual and mechanical foundation. How players respond to the level cap, new zones, and pricing model will likely shape the next phase of announcements.
