A massive 192GB leak of Rockstar Games’ internal files has surfaced, providing an unprecedented look at cut content from Grand Theft Auto 5. The leak includes source code, unused assets, and scrapped mission data that suggest the developer once had ambitious plans for the game that never made it to the public.

What the Leak Reveals

Fans digging through the data have identified a treasure trove of content, most notably files suggesting that a Liberty City expansion for GTA 5 was in development. YouTuber TJGM has shared data visualizations showing the outline of a Liberty City shoreline that appears larger than the map featured in GTA 4. This discovery has reignited discussions regarding a decade-old screenshot found in a former Rockstar artist’s portfolio, which depicted Liberty City rendered in the GTA 5 engine.

Beyond the Liberty City files, the leak reportedly contains very early development assets for GTA 6 and information regarding other abandoned projects. Among these is the “Agent Trevor” DLC, which was previously hinted at by actor Steven Ogg. The content would have featured Trevor Philips working undercover for the government, with reports indicating that some materials related to this project are present in the leaked data.

Why It Matters

The shift away from single-player expansions became a major turning point for the franchise. Former Rockstar senior camera artist Joseph Rubino previously explained that as GTA Online became a massive financial success, the studio moved resources away from standalone DLC to focus on the multiplayer mode. While Rubino noted at the time that he felt the studio could have supported both, the business decision ultimately led to the cancellation of side stories like the Agent Trevor DLC.

While some speculation has surfaced that the scrapped Liberty City assets might be repurposed for future GTA 6 expansions, no concrete evidence currently supports that theory. For now, this leak stands as a significant peek behind the curtain at what might have been, confirming that Rockstar’s post-launch plans for Los Santos were much larger than what players eventually received.
