The second update for Valor Mortis has arrived, bringing a significant overhaul to combat feel alongside a suite of quality-of-life fixes and progression repairs. As detailed in the official developer notes released on October 21, 2026, the team is actively responding to player feedback regarding hit detection and gameplay consistency.

Combat and Gameplay Tuning

The core of this patch focuses on making the game’s combat feel more fair and responsive. Developers have adjusted the hitboxes for numerous enemies and bosses to ensure they align more closely with their visual animations, effectively addressing reports of attacks hitting players when they clearly appeared to miss. Additionally, damage windows for specific threats—including the Risen Duelist, Eternal Guardsman, and Howler—have been retuned to improve overall hit consistency.

Visibility during encounters has also been improved. Players should find it easier to read attack windups for the Risen Sapeur’s push attack and the Risen Lancer’s unblockable red attack, allowing for better reactionary play during high-intensity fights.

Bug Fixes and Stability

Technical reliability was a major focus in this update. The team addressed multiple crash-related issues and resolved a variety of frustrating bugs, such as one that left players permanently slowed or unable to jump if they were crouching when hit. Other notable fixes include:

  • Resolved an issue where upgrading the Ferrofluid Flask would fail to save.
  • Corrected a bug causing the Burning status effect to persist indefinitely after respawning.
  • Fixed a display issue where animations would occasionally play in slow motion.
  • Addressed an annoying pop-up error that incorrectly prompted Steam Deck and SteamOS users to update drivers.

For those running into progression blocks, the patch includes specific fixes for side quests like “Sleeping Beauty,” “Misericorde,” and “In the Name of Art.” The developers noted that players must return to these side quest locations to trigger the fixes. If a player remains stuck, the support team is offering replacement save files by chapter via their official support portal.

Why it matters

This update is a major win for players who felt the game’s combat was occasionally punishing due to inconsistent hit detection rather than genuine difficulty. By tightening hitboxes and clarifying telegraphs for enemy attacks, the experience should now feel much more transparent and rewarding for those pushing through the campaign.

If you have been struggling with progression-stopping bugs or erratic boss interactions, this update provides much-needed relief. With the developer promising that more patches are currently in development, it is worth monitoring your quest log and combat performance closely to see how these changes influence your current run.
