The developers of Valor Mortis have released their first major update following the game’s launch earlier this week, focusing primarily on technical stability and quest progression. According to the official patch notes, the team is actively working to resolve performance concerns reported by early players.

Technical Fixes and Performance Optimization

The update introduces several backend improvements aimed at smoothing out the player experience. Most notably, the developers have implemented automated GPU driver detection, which will trigger a pop-up alert if a player is running outdated software. The team emphasizes that keeping GPU drivers updated is one of the most effective ways to see immediate performance and stability improvements. Additionally, this patch addresses common crashes and reduces error logging to help alleviate performance overhead.

For players experiencing stutters or significant frame rate drops, specifically those who previously participated in the game’s Playtest or Demo versions, the developers recommend deleting the existing game configuration file located at: AppData\Local\ValorMortis\Saved\Config\Windows\GameUserSettings.ini.

Progression and Quality of Life Updates

Beyond technical performance, the update resolves several progression blockers that could halt gameplay. A significant fix includes correcting an issue in Chapter 4 where the post-boss sequence failed to save progress correctly. Players stuck on Chapter 12 should also find relief, as a progression blocker has been removed, along with fixes for edge cases where cutscenes failed to trigger properly.

Sidequest progress for “In the Name of Art” in Chapter 5 has been patched, and players will no longer be able to exploit a bug that caused Volunteer enemies to stop attacking after being backstabbed. The developers note that they are continuing to investigate further reports from the community and encourage players to keep submitting crash reports to aid in future development.

Why it matters

This patch is essential for those currently working through the campaign, as it resolves critical progression blockers in Chapters 4 and 12 that could have previously stalled a playthrough. The move to add automated driver detection shows the developers are prioritizing system-level stability to reduce technical frustration.

If you find your performance is still struggling despite the patch, the manual step of deleting the legacy GameUserSettings.ini file is likely the most important action you can take. Players should keep an eye on official communication for further performance optimization updates as the team continues to act on player feedback.
