Insomniac Games confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine would ship with New Game Plus available from day one, giving players a reason to jump back in right after their first playthrough. The studio also detailed a story-driven side activity called Nightmare Doors. The details came from senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed and head of technology Mike Fitzgerald in an IGN interview published on August 14, and the game launched on September 15, 2026 on PlayStation 5.

New Game Plus at launch

Having New Game Plus ready on day one is a change from Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, which added the mode after launch. In Wolverine, players carry over their full loadout, progression, unlocked suits and upgrades into a new run.

New Game Plus also adds exclusive adaptations, unlockable modifiers that are only available in this mode. Some let players raise the difficulty, while others make Logan much more powerful and aggressive. That gives both completionists and players who want a tougher challenge a reason to replay the campaign rather than simply repeating it. Because everything carries over, a second run is also the easiest way to finish upgrade trees and collect suits that were missed the first time.

Nightmare Doors

Nightmare Doors are optional, story-driven trials in which players confront Logan’s nightmares to uncover his past. Inside, players face manifestations of the terrible things happening in Logan’s mind, and there are several different types of trial spread through the game. They let players go off the main path to piece together mysteries from Logan’s history, tying the side content directly to the game’s focus on his psychology.

Other replay features

Mission Replay lets players revisit any mission for fun or to hunt missed collectibles, such as whiskey bottles that act as power-ups and material crates used to unlock suits. The game also launched with 35 accessibility options and a Photo Mode.

On difficulty, the adaptations system is the main lever for experienced players, while accessibility options let others tune the experience. Insomniac has not highlighted a trophy list as part of these announcements, so players chasing the Platinum should check the full list on PlayStation’s store page.

Why it matters

Launching with endgame content is increasingly expected, and confirming it early showed confidence. For a linear single-player game, New Game Plus with unique modifiers and a separate set of story trials adds real value beyond the main campaign.

For players deciding whether the $69.99 Standard Edition is worth it, these modes are the main reason Wolverine offers more than a single run.
