Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Shares Story Details and PC Requirements

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy pulled back the curtain on its prequel story and technical specs ahead of launch. The game is set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Innocence and tells an original story that weaves together combat, myth and fate. Developed by Asobo Studio and published by Focus Entertainment, it launched on August 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

Story details

Players control Sophia, a smuggler and capable fighter who first appeared in A Plague Tale: Requiem. The story runs across two timelines: the Middle Ages in 1334, and ancient Minoan Crete, the island where Sophia grew up. Visions of a Greek warrior from her childhood connect her to the ancient history of the Prima Macula, the curse at the heart of the series.

The dual-timeline structure lets events in Minoan Crete affect the medieval present, and the story draws on classical mythology, including the Minotaur and the story of Ariadne. It is a fresh chapter of the series’ world, with new characters and perspectives rather than a retelling of Amicia and Hugo’s journey. Because it is set before Innocence, players do not need to know the earlier games to follow it, although fans of Requiem will get more out of Sophia’s backstory and the origins of the curse.

A more combat-focused Plague Tale

Resonance marks a shift from the series’ stealth-first gameplay toward more action. Sophia can parry attacks and perform finishing moves, and the developers have cited Ghost of Tsushima, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Sifu as influences on combat. At the same time, Asobo scaled the difficulty so players who are not familiar with soulslike games can still get through it.

PC requirements

Preliminary PC requirements were shared through AMD and only list AMD hardware, without stating the target resolution or frame rate:

Minimum: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB RAM, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, and 50 GB of storage, with an SSD recommended.

Recommended: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, 16 GB RAM, AMD Radeon RX 6800, and 50 GB of storage on an SSD, which is required at this tier.

Players on NVIDIA or Intel hardware should look for equivalent cards and check the official store listing for full requirements.

Why it matters

Resonance expands A Plague Tale’s lore while testing a new gameplay direction for the series. Reviews have been generally favorable, and the move toward combat gives players who found the earlier games too slow a reason to return.
