Ubisoft has released the final major content update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, introducing long-requested features including a New Game Plus mode and a punishing new difficulty setting. As reported by Eurogamer, update 1.0.8 is live now across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
New Game Plus Details
The update adds a New Game Plus (NG+) mode, allowing players to start a fresh campaign while retaining most of their progress. According to the developer, players can carry over Edward’s weapons, upgrades, and tools, as well as the Jackdaw’s ship upgrades and acquired pets. Inventory items such as money, materials, and trade goods also transfer, though quest-related items do not. The map’s fog of war is reset, requiring players to re-capture forts.
NG+ introduces a new exclusive currency called Escudos, earned by completing challenges or looting chests. These can be used to purchase exclusive cosmetics or exchanged for Reales at General Stores. The difficulty of the game scales with each successive NG+ run, up to five times, bringing more elite soldiers and high-rank ships to the Caribbean.
Nightmare Difficulty and Gameplay Changes
For those looking for a stiffer challenge, Patch 1.0.8 introduces Nightmare Mode. As noted by Eurogamer, this setting increases enemy damage and reaction speeds, tightens parry windows, and forces players to deal with more aggressive ranged attackers. Most significantly, the update removes the game’s one-shot kill safety feature. This means players are no longer protected from instant death via high-burst damage, a design choice intended to ensure that, as Ubisoft put it, “every duel can be your last.”
The update also includes new community chests, additional cosmetic options, and fresh takedown animations, alongside various bug fixes.
Why it matters
For fans of the series, this patch serves as the final major update for the game, marking the end of its active post-launch support cycle. Players looking to squeeze more playtime out of the title finally have a reason to restart the campaign via NG+, while the removal of safety nets and the addition of Nightmare Mode offer a much more demanding experience for those who have mastered the game’s combat systems.
With the update size ranging from 2GB to 4.5GB on most platforms—and 15.5GB on Xbox—players should check their storage before starting the download. While this concludes the major updates for the current versions, the game is reportedly heading to the Switch 2 in the future, where these features are expected to be included at launch.
