The latest patch for Escape From Playtime has arrived, delivering the most-requested feature from the community: public lobbies. As detailed in the official update notes, the developers have moved to address player feedback by implementing a new matchmaking system and introducing significant gameplay balances.
The Lobby Doors Are Open
Players can now host and join lobbies directly from the main menu, eliminating previous barriers to finding a group. The update introduces a Quickmatch feature, which automatically pairs players with a random group. For those hosting, the developers have added moderation tools, including the ability to kick problematic players to ensure a smoother experience.
Deepening the Factory Secrets
Exploration has received a narrative boost with the addition of new lore elements. Players can now discover 12 hidden notes scattered throughout the factory halls and find new posters adorned with mysterious messages. Additionally, VHS tapes collected in the facility now reveal lore-specific details when returned to the Perm-A-Lounge.
Gameplay Balancing and Quality of Life
Beyond connectivity and story, this update introduces several mechanical adjustments. Shift quotas now scale based on the number of players in a lobby, providing a more balanced experience for smaller groups. Survival has also been made slightly more forgiving: players now have their health and flashlight batteries fully restored upon returning from the facility.
Additional balance changes include a “Lost & Found Box” for items dropped in the Cave, the inclusion of a starting map for all players, and improved accessibility for the Backpack item via vending machines. Enemy AI has also been adjusted; CatNap now features tighter tracking, and the cumulative quota to unlock KickinChicken has been reduced from 25k to 20k to help players reach their goals faster.
Why it matters
For the Escape From Playtime community, these changes represent a significant shift in how the game is played and experienced. The introduction of public lobbies and matchmaking finally makes the game accessible to solo players looking to find groups quickly without needing to rely on external communities.
Furthermore, the quality-of-life adjustments—such as the scaling quotas and the addition of the Lost & Found Box—remove some of the more punishing aspects of early-game sessions. Players should watch for how the new enemy tuning for CatNap affects their survival runs, as these adjustments make the threat more persistent and aggressive than before.
