As N7 Day approaches, the fan group ‘We are Mass Effect’ has taken their protest to the streets surrounding Electronic Arts headquarters in Redwood City, California. According to an IGN report, the group deployed a mobile billboard truck featuring the #SaveMassEffect hashtag to increase visibility following the closure of BioWare and the decision to place the sci-fi franchise on hold.
Taking the message to the source
This mobile effort follows a previous billboard campaign in New York City’s Times Square. The truck currently circling EA and EA Sports HQ includes a QR code and URL directing fans to SaveMassEffect.com. The organizers behind the movement, including content creator Kala Elizabeth, emphasized that the goal is to make their support for the franchise and its developers visible in the physical world.
“Social media can sometimes make devastating events feel distant or abstract,” the group told IGN. “We wanted to bring the movement into the physical world and make that support visible. For us, this has never been just about the IP but the people behind it and their work.”
What is coming next
Following the appearance at EA’s Redwood City offices, the organizers plan to take the mobile billboard near BioWare’s former offices tomorrow. A final billboard is scheduled to appear during The Game Awards next month, where it is expected to drive near the ceremony for approximately four hours.
In addition to the physical protests, the group has a busy schedule for N7 Day on November 7. They are preparing a tribute video featuring voice actors Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer and are encouraging fans to participate in ‘N7 Play Day’ to boost concurrent player counts for *Mass Effect: Legendary Edition* on Steam. Looking further ahead, the community also plans to send N7-themed cupcakes to EA’s headquarters next week.
Why it matters
For the Mass Effect community, this campaign represents a push back against the studio closures and project cancellations that have impacted the developers behind their favorite games. With over 300,000 signatures on a petition urging EA to keep the franchise alive, the movement is attempting to prevent the series and its creators from being forgotten by the publisher.
Players should watch for further activity during N7 Day, as the group continues to seek creative ways to keep public attention focused on the human impact of the industry’s recent studio closures. While the mobile billboards have drawn significant attention, organizers stress that the most important action for fans remains supporting the affected developers and keeping the conversation alive.
