Infinity Ward is clearing out some of the early-access frustrations in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. According to a report from GamesRadar+, developers have released a new patch specifically targeting the DMZ extraction mode and a campaign-breaking progression bug ahead of the game’s full release on October 23.
DMZ AI and Progression Tweaks
Early access players have been reporting some rough edges in DMZ, particularly with how enemy AI behaves. The update addresses instances where AI was overreaching, including scenarios where enemies could overwhelm players during the initial infiltration phase and cases where AI enemies could access restricted areas while a player was in a downed state.
Beyond combat adjustments, the patch tackles several progression blockers. A notable bug that caused players to receive zero experience after their first match has been resolved. Additionally, the ‘King Slayer’ calling card was previously only awarding experience to the specific player who landed the final blow on a Commander, even if the entire squad participated in the fight. Other smaller mechanical and visual issues have also been ironed out as the team prepares for the wider public launch.
Campaign Fixes
Outside of the extraction mode, the team has addressed a specific progression bottleneck in the single-player campaign. Players experiencing issues during the ‘Counter Attack’ mission—specifically in the hotel section—should find that progression now flows as intended.
Why it matters
For players jumping into Modern Warfare 4 early, these fixes are a welcome sign that developer Infinity Ward is actively listening to community feedback before the servers see a larger influx of players at the October 23 launch. The fixes to DMZ AI should lead to a more balanced and less frustrating extraction experience, while the correction to progression bugs ensures that early playtime actually counts toward rank and unlocks.
If you were previously frustrated by the ‘King Slayer’ calling card requirements or the progression stall in the hotel mission, the game should now track your efforts correctly. Players should expect further tuning in the coming days as the developers look to optimize the experience for the full, public release.
