The latest reveal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ mode has stirred debate among the community, centering on a new system that allows players to pay for tactical advantages at the start of a match. During the latest trailer showcasing the mode’s Forward Operating Base, it was confirmed that players can select from five different ‘infil’ options, ranging from free deployment to a staggering $100,000 in DMZ Cash.
The cost of tactical placement
While the standard, free spawn drops players on foot at a random location—the traditional approach for extraction shooters—the paid options offer immediate mobility and protection. For $5,000, squads can spawn in a Polaris Dagor A1 tactical vehicle. Spending $25,000 nets an armored Light Tactical Vehicle (LTV), while $50,000 secures a helicopter. The most expensive tier, priced at $100,000, provides an air vehicle that seemingly allows squads to select their preferred drop point on the map, effectively bypassing the random spawning constraints faced by everyone else.
It is important to note that these premium spawns are not automatically available; players must complete specific story missions for the LTV and helicopter options before they can even be purchased. Additionally, there has been speculation regarding the top-tier air vehicle, with long-time leakers suggesting it could be an AC-130, though others note it likely functions as a transport aircraft.
Why it matters
For players, these additions represent a significant shift in the balance of an extraction-based mode. By allowing better-funded squads to move faster and choose their entry points, the system risks creating a two-tier experience where those relying on free spawns are consistently put at a disadvantage. As squads build up their in-game cash reserves, those who cannot afford these premium deployment options may find themselves struggling to compete with players who can reach objectives or extraction points significantly faster.
Whether Infinity Ward can effectively balance these advantages remains a primary concern for the community. With the game launching on October 23rd for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2, players should watch closely to see if the cost of these spawns acts as a sufficient barrier to keep the playing field fair.
