If you are the type of gamer who loves 100% completing your library, Microsoft just made your hobby a lot more rewarding. Starting today, Xbox Insiders are getting an early look at a new feature called Mythic Achievements, designed to recognize players who knock out every original achievement in a game.
How Mythic Achievements Work
Unlike standard Gamerscore, which accumulates over time, a Mythic Achievement is earned specifically when you complete all original achievements for a title. Importantly, you don’t need to stress about DLC or post-launch updates; those added achievements are clearly tagged as “add-on” and won’t stand in your way of reaching Mythic status. Once you’ve earned the status, it is yours to keep, and the system is retroactive—meaning if you have already finished games in your history, including older Xbox 360 titles, you may find your profile already populated with these new rewards.
To make tracking these easier, the new Gaming tab in your Xbox profile highlights your completed games with a unique “heroic frame.” You will also see a new progress bar at the top of game achievement lists that tracks exactly how close you are to finishing the base game.
Why It Matters
For achievement hunters, this update serves as a long-requested way to distinguish between playing a game and truly conquering it. Beyond just showing off your own stats, you can now peek at your friends’ Gaming tabs to see which games they’ve taken to Mythic status, adding a bit of friendly competition to your completionist runs.
This feature is currently rolling out to Xbox Insiders. If you aren’t already part of the program, you can join by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub on your Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Windows PC to start testing these updates early.
