If you are planning to dive into Grand Theft Auto 6 on day one, it is time to start clearing some room on your hard drive. Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that the pre-load file for the highly anticipated title will require up to 212GB of storage space, depending on your device. As reported by GamesRadar+, while initial estimates floated around 210GB for PlayStation 5, the final pre-load requirement reaches 212GB. Rockstar notes that players should ensure they have ample space available to begin the process as soon as possible, as the final installation sizes may differ noticeably from the initial pre-load downloads and can vary slightly between the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X platforms.

Beyond the massive file size, Rockstar has moved up the timeline for digital pre-orders. While some order forms previously indicated that pre-loading would begin on November 12, the studio has clarified that digital pre-loading for PlayStation 5 is now set to begin on Tuesday, November 10, at midnight local time in each respective time zone. For Xbox Series X owners, the global pre-load window also opens on Tuesday, November 10, beginning at 12 a.m. GMT. Players opting for physical code-in-box versions should still expect those to be available from retailers starting November 12, consistent with previous communications from the publisher.

To assist players, Rockstar has published a dedicated pre-load FAQ for those looking for further guidance on the process or simply seeking more information during this final wait. Additionally, the developer has introduced a final bonus purchase: a double-sided poster featuring the game’s cover art and map. This item is available for $1 separately or can be acquired for free with another purchase through the official Rockstar merch store.

Reports indicate that the project has been heavily shaped by Rockstar president Sam Houser, who is involved in every aspect of the creative development. As anticipation builds, the community continues to debate the game’s mechanics, with some observers suggesting the title incorporates elements of an RPG, a classification the studio has not officially adopted.

Why it matters

For players, this news serves as a critical logistical heads-up. With a 212GB footprint, those with limited storage or slower internet connections will want to utilize the earlier November 10 pre-load window to ensure their console is ready the moment the game launches. Because download times can be significant for a file of this magnitude, securing your assets early is the best way to avoid day-one traffic or download bottlenecks. By aligning with the updated global schedule, digital consumers can maximize their preparation time ahead of the full release.
