Supercell, the studio behind Clash Royale and Brawl Stars, is acquiring Merge Mansion developer Metacore in a deal expected to close by the end of September. Once finalized, Merge Mansion will join Supercell’s portfolio of live games as the Finnish mobile gaming giant continues consolidating talent in a competitive market.

What’s Happening With the Deal

Metacore made the acquisition public this week, with CEO Mika Tammenkoski expressing optimism about the partnership. “Supercell’s expertise in operating and growing global live games over many years gives Merge Mansion the best possible foundation for long-term success,” Tammenkoski said in the announcement. Both companies are already coordinating transition planning as the deal moves toward completion.

The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Supercell is known for titles like Clash Royale and Brawl Stars, while Metacore launched Merge Mansion in 2020.

Context: Why This Matters Now

This acquisition reflects broader restructuring across the mobile gaming space. Metacore initiated its own restructuring in May, which included the possibility of reducing up to 160 roles in Finland and investigating operational changes in Germany and Sweden. At that time, the company framed the moves as necessary to “better align with the core business, improve efficiency of operations, and respond to an increasingly competitive market environment.”

Merge Mansion’s growth has plateaued over the past few years since launch, and Metacore’s new game investments have not succeeded in launching globally. The company had built an organization with growth ambitions that didn’t materialize as expected, with competition intensifying annually since Merge Mansion’s release and the creation of the “merge 2” category.

By joining Supercell, Merge Mansion gains access to a studio with a proven track record in sustaining and scaling live service games over extended periods. Supercell has demonstrated this capability across multiple titles in its portfolio. For players, the acquisition means the game will remain operational under a publisher with deep experience managing the live service model that games like Merge Mansion depend on.

The deal also represents a strategic move for Supercell to expand its live games network. Rather than launching entirely new IPs in a saturated market, acquiring an existing title with an established player base offers a more efficient path to portfolio growth.

What’s Next

Players should expect the deal to finalize within the coming weeks, with potential announcements about the transition process to follow. The gaming community will likely be watching for any changes to Merge Mansion’s development roadmap or operations under Supercell’s stewardship.
