The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 will need about 27GB of storage, according to its official Nintendo Store listing. Nintendo notes the figure could still change before the game launches on November 5, 2026.

Release and what is new

The remake was first teased in June 2026 and fully shown at the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8. It is developed by Nintendo EPD and is a Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo has not listed a price in the material covered here, so check your regional eShop or retailer.

This is a ground-up rebuild of the 1998 Nintendo 64 game, not an upscaled port. The visuals move to a stylised realistic look and Hyrule Castle Town is expanded into a fully explorable area. Cutscenes now have full voice acting, which the original never had.

Gameplay changes include a dash ability, faster swimming, a manual jump button in place of automatic jumping, full camera control, gyro aiming, item switching similar to Breath of the Wild, microphone support for humming ocarina melodies, and a Threads of Time quest log. Time also passes continuously in every area, including towns where it used to stand still.

Storage: what 27GB means on Switch 2

For a Nintendo game, 27GB is large. Most Switch releases were a fraction of that because of cartridge sizes and the original console’s 32GB of internal storage. The new visuals and full voice acting account for much of the increase.

The Switch 2 has 256GB of internal storage, so the remake alone will not fill it, but space goes quickly once you add other large titles and any Game-Key Card releases, which download the full game. Switch 2 storage can only be expanded with microSD Express cards; older standard microSD cards work for screenshots and videos but cannot run Switch 2 games.

If you buy the physical cartridge, the game data is on the card, though updates and save data still use internal storage. Digital buyers will need the full amount free before downloading.

Performance

Nintendo has not yet published resolution or frame rate targets for the remake. More detail is likely closer to launch or in early previews.

Why it matters

For players planning to buy digitally, the practical step is to check free space now and, if needed, budget for a microSD Express card before November 5. If the Switch 2 is already crowded, the physical version saves most of the space.

More broadly, the size reflects how far Nintendo is pushing this remake. Voice acting, a rebuilt Hyrule and modern controls add up to a much bigger package than the original, and it signals that major first-party Switch 2 games will increasingly need the kind of storage planning PlayStation and Xbox players are used to.
