Why This Matters

Metro 2039’s five nominations reflect 4A Games’ position as a major presence at the event, while the nomination spread shows how the industry currently balances blockbuster sequels with indie creativity. The platform categories underscore the fragmentation of modern gaming: Xbox is fielding major franchise titles, Nintendo Switch 2 is getting dedicated AAA support from Capcom, and PlayStation notably has no official representation at gamescom, yet its games still compete in the platform-agnostic awards. The mix of both big-budget and niche projects across the arts categories suggests the ceremony values craftsmanship across budget scales.

What’s Next

Voting runs through the event opening August 26th, with community and jury members deciding winners across all categories. gamescom 2026 itself will be the stage for these announcements, and it’s worth watching which of these nominees wins recognition from the floor.
