Two Paths to Women’s Esports: VALORANT’s Global Circuit vs. MLBB’s Regional Stronghold

VALORANT Game Changers runs a global circuit while MLBB's Women's Invitational draws bigger peaks at the Esports World Cup; both offer $500,000 team prize pools.

Women’s esports has settled around two very different models. VALORANT’s Game Changers program is a structured global circuit run by Riot Games, while Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) has built its biggest women’s events on the strength of its huge player base in Southeast Asia. Both now run international championships with $500,000 team prize pools, but they reach audiences in different ways.

VALORANT Game Changers: a global circuit

Riot launched Game Changers in 2021, less than a year after VALORANT’s release. The program runs regional circuits in areas such as EMEA, North America, Brazil, Latin America, the Pacific and China, with open qualifiers and circuit points feeding into an annual Game Changers Championship. The championship has carried a $500,000 team prize pool since 2022.

The 2026 Championship is scheduled for October 22 to November 1 at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo, Brazil, with 10 teams in a double-elimination bracket. EMEA has three seeds, taken by G2 Gozen, Gentle Mates GC and SK Nebula, while the Pacific is represented by Gen.G GC and FENNEL Female. Riot also links Game Changers to the wider pro scene through an upward mobility program that lets players move into Challengers qualifiers.

Viewership has been uneven. The 2024 Championship peaked at 464,695 viewers, but the 2025 event fell by around half to a peak of 228,672, according to figures cited by Esports Insider.

MLBB: regional depth, global stage

MLBB’s approach is built on scale in Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia and the Philippines, where the mobile game is one of the most popular titles in the region. Its flagship women’s event, the MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI), joined the Esports World Cup in Riyadh in 2024 and now draws qualifiers from more than 60 regions.

The 2026 MWI offered a $500,000 team prize pool and peaked at 565,483 viewers, the second-highest peak ever recorded for a women’s esports event, with more than 5 million hours watched. Peak viewership more than doubled between 2024 and 2026. Women’s MLBB at the 32nd SEA Games also set an all-time viewership record, peaking at 1.37 million viewers.

Why it matters

The two models answer different questions. Game Changers offers a clear, year-round pathway in many regions, which is valuable for players trying to build careers. MLBB shows that concentrating on a market where a game is already dominant can produce bigger single events and larger audiences. Neither has made the other obsolete, and both remain small relative to their open circuits: women-only events account for 13.8% of VALORANT prize money and 9.1% of MLBB’s.

For the Middle East, MLBB’s link to the Esports World Cup puts the largest women’s MLBB event on GCC soil each year, giving local fans direct access to top-level women’s competition. For aspiring players in the region, Game Changers EMEA remains the most direct route into a structured VALORANT circuit.
