Final Fantasy VII Revelation will need about 200GB, says director Naoki Hamaguchi; it launches April 8, 2027 on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, is expected to need around 200GB of storage. Director Naoki Hamaguchi gave the figure in an interview with VGC, and it means players should plan ahead before the game launches on April 8, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

A heavy lift for storage

A 200GB install is a big ask at a time when many players already juggle full drives. Hamaguchi acknowledged the size is a point of debate but described it as a necessary trade-off to deliver the scale the team wants. “I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent,” he said.

The size also affects physical buyers. Physical copies will need additional downloads rather than shipping the complete game on disc. Square Enix has said the PlayStation 5 version ships on one disc with a mandatory download, so an internet connection and free space will be needed even for boxed copies. It is not yet clear whether the 200GB figure applies equally to every platform, and Square Enix has not published final install sizes or PC system requirements.

What is taking up the space

Revelation is designed around a large open world that aims to cover the whole planet explored across the remake trilogy, building on the open regions introduced in Rebirth. Square Enix is also adding extra content, including a significantly expanded version of the piano minigame that fans enjoyed in Rebirth. Hamaguchi said the rewards for playing have been revamped to offer more substance, and that the minigame will now hold information tied to Tifa’s character.

Platforms and release

Revelation launches on April 8, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store, making it the first part of the trilogy to launch on every major platform at the same time. Square Enix has not yet announced pre-load timing.

Why it matters

For PlayStation 5 owners, 200GB is a significant share of the console’s built-in storage, so many players will need to delete games or add an SSD before launch. On Switch 2, which has 256GB of internal storage, the final size of that version will matter even more, and a microSD Express card may be needed depending on how large it turns out to be.

For players in the GCC, where internet speeds are generally fast but data caps and home connections still vary, a large day-one download is worth planning around. The simplest step is to clear space in advance and pre-load as soon as Square Enix opens it, so the game is ready to play on April 8.
