A YouTube gaming channel called Mighty Mike Plays has ignited a firestorm of skepticism after claiming a nine-year-old user accidentally spent $118,000 of his father’s company credit card funds on unauthorized ad campaigns. The channel, which started in August, gained massive traction after the creator’s father, identified as Dave, uploaded a video titled “Message from Dad…Mighty Mike Plays is Over” on September 14.

Dave, who claims to work in marketing, stated that he originally linked his business card to the account to purchase Roblox currency and a small $20 ad boost. He alleges that his son, while unsupervised, ramped up spending on YouTube ads, eventually leading to his firing and a demand to repay the $118,000 balance within 30 days. Dave suggested that he might be forced to sell his family home to cover the debt.

Growing Skepticism and Scam Allegations

Despite the channel’s rapid growth to over 238,000 subscribers, many viewers remain unconvinced. Critics point to the suspicious nature of the spending—specifically how a corporate card could accrue such a debt without internal safeguards—and the lack of verifiable evidence beyond a brief screenshot of a balance that was later removed from the channel. The situation escalated when the creators launched an online store selling merchandise, including T-shirts priced between $67 and $97 that feature AI-generated designs.

AI Designs and Digital Backlash

The use of AI-generated assets, coupled with high-priced merch, has fueled claims that the entire saga is a calculated engagement scheme rather than a genuine financial disaster. In response to the backlash, the channel owners have disabled comments, citing a desire to protect the nine-year-old creator from toxic interactions. While the channel has since removed some posts, a captured message from the owner defended the use of AI, stating, “AI is here to stay, adapt or get left behind.” As of now, the channel remains active but locked down, leaving the community divided on whether this is a legitimate family crisis or a viral marketing play.
