Minecraft Live has revealed The Sift, Minecraft’s first new dimension since The End arrived in 2011. The Sift will join the Overworld, the Nether and the End as a full realm with its own biomes and mobs, and it is coming to both Java and Bedrock editions in 2027, making it one of the largest changes in the game’s history.
What we know about The Sift
New dimensions are rare in Minecraft. The Nether arrived in 2010 and The End in 2011, and both changed how experienced players gather resources and progress. After 15 years without a new one, The Sift is one of the biggest content additions the game has announced in more than a decade.
Details are still limited. Mojang has confirmed it will have its own set of biomes and mobs, and blue bunnies are among the creatures shown so far. How players will reach The Sift, and what it will offer in terms of resources or progression, has not been fully explained. The dimension also appears first in Minecraft Dungeons II, ahead of its arrival in the main game.
Ice caves and a new mob
Before The Sift arrives, the main game is getting underground ice caves, a rare cold cave biome. They are rich in ores and provide easy access to ice. Glowing ice crystals act as decorative light sources, and a new frozen zombie mob throws ice balls that can freeze players. Those ice balls can be used to craft freezing potions.
Minecraft Dungeons II
Minecraft Dungeons II launched on September 29 as a major step up from the original co-op action spin-off. It has a new, colorful art style, interconnected levels that encourage exploration, a jump ability, and an expanded armor system with talismans. Its story draws on the Deep Dark and Ancient Cities.
Creative tools and Switch 2
Mojang’s Jens Bergensten announced new content creation features aimed at both newcomers and professional creators, and marketplace sound effect packs are due later this year. Minecraft is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, with enhanced graphics closer to the Xbox and PlayStation 5 versions.
Why it matters
For players, The Sift is the headline because a new dimension changes the long-term shape of the game. The Nether and The End define much of Minecraft’s mid and late game, and a third alternate realm could reshape endgame exploration and resource gathering for years.
In the short term, ice caves give players something new to explore, and Switch 2 owners get an upgraded version on October 27. Minecraft remains one of the most played games among young players in the Middle East, and bigger updates like these tend to bring lapsed players back. Expect more details on The Sift through Mojang’s official channels during 2027.
