Epic Games Store Adds System Shock 2 Remaster to October Freebies

The Epic Games Store has kicked off its latest round of free game giveaways, headlined by the recently released System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. Players can claim this updated version of the iconic 1999 genre-defining title, alongside the mystery adventure game Buried Stars, starting now until Thursday, October 8.

A mix of horror and strategy

Following the current promotion, Epic will rotate its offerings on October 8. From that date through October 15, users can add Out of Sight and TerraScape to their digital libraries for free. Once claimed during their respective promotional windows, these games remain in your library permanently, a staple of the storefront’s ongoing giveaway program.

Out of Sight is a horror-puzzle game that tasks players with guiding a blind girl named Sophie through a haunted mansion, while TerraScape offers a more relaxing pace as a medieval city-builder focused on strategic building placement across floating islands. Buried Stars, published by Line Games, rounds out the early month’s offerings with a mystery-driven narrative centered on contestants trapped within a survival audition show, requiring them to use social media to communicate for rescue.

Modernizing a classic

Nightdive Studios is behind the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, which aims to bring the seminal FPS/RPG to modern hardware. The studio has overhauled the original experience with updated visuals, full widescreen support, and the addition of cross-play co-op, allowing players to revisit or experience the Citadel station’s horrors with modern quality-of-life improvements.

Why it matters

These giveaways provide an easy way to pad your backlog with critically acclaimed titles at no cost. For those who enjoy immersive sims, the System Shock 2 remaster is a significant inclusion given its historical importance in the gaming industry. As these titles rotate weekly, it is worth keeping an eye on the Epic Games Store every Thursday to ensure you don’t miss out on the claims before they revert to their standard pricing.
