After two years of development during its Early Access phase, the survival RPG Enshrouded is officially launching its 1.0 version. As reported by Kotaku, the full release arrives on October 15, marking a major milestone for the title which has already seen over five million players join its voxel-based world.
The Evolution of Embervale
The full release is set to provide long-awaited answers regarding the lore of Embervale, specifically the origins of the deadly, life-draining Shroud that covers the map. Players can expect new biomes, additional enemies, and significant gameplay refinements that have been polished through eight major updates during the Early Access period. According to the reporting from Kotaku, the developers have prioritized community feedback to optimize performance and rebalance combat encounters, such as the Fell Dragon Youngling boss fight, to ensure the final product is “battle-tested.”
Co-op and Creative Freedom
Enshrouded supports up to sixteen players on PC and eight players on PlayStation 5. The game’s design encourages a collaborative loop where players can specialize in different tasks—such as base building, resource farming, or combat exploration—without feeling forced into a single role. The world remains fully terraformable, allowing players to build everything from intricate underground cities to fortresses atop cliffs using a mix of precision tools and pre-made blocks.
Combat and character progression are equally flexible, featuring a deep skill tree that accommodates various playstyles, including magic and melee archetypes. For those who prefer a different pace, the game includes options to adjust difficulty, catering to both casual builders and those seeking hardcore combat challenges.
Why it matters
For players, the 1.0 launch represents the transition from a work-in-progress to a content-complete experience. The inclusion of new biomes, technical improvements, and fan-requested quality-of-life updates for features like fishing and pet interactions provides a refreshed foundation for both veteran survivalists and newcomers joining on PlayStation 5.
With the launch arriving on October 15 for PC, PS5, and PS5 Pro, the community is already looking toward a post-launch roadmap to sustain the game’s momentum. While Xbox Series X|S users have a longer wait ahead with a release planned for spring 2027, the current update solidifies the game’s reputation as a community-driven survival experience that rewards player creativity.
