Riot Games has officially dropped the roadmap for the 2027 VALORANT Champions Tour, confirming a sprawling global circuit that spans 15 cities and culminates in the year’s biggest event held in Austin. As reported by Esports Insider, the upcoming season is set to feature over 50 tournaments and a total prize pool exceeding $7 million, introducing a restructured qualification system that aims to bridge the gap between open teams and established organizations.
A New Global Footprint
The 2027 schedule is designed to move away from centralized locations, opting instead to host regional tournaments across a wider variety of global cities. The season kicks off with events in São Paulo, Berlin, Bangkok, and Hangzhou from January 14 to February 7, followed by the first Masters tournament in Seoul in late February. Throughout the year, players will rotate through cities including Valencia, Mexico City, Warsaw, Manila, Wuhan, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, Tokyo, and Shanghai, before arriving in Austin for the Champions and Game Changers Championship from September 16 to October 10.
According to reporting from Sheep Esports and TheSpike.gg, the qualification process is also seeing a significant overhaul. While partner teams in EMEA, Americas, and Pacific retain entry to regional Kickoff events, they will now be forced to compete against squads advancing through Open Qualifiers to secure spots in the rest of the circuit. Riot is backing this shift with a robust financial support program for open teams, offering $100,000 for each event reached through qualifiers, scaling up to $400,000 for those who make it to Champions. Anna Donlon and Leo Faria, speaking to Sheep Esports, emphasized that this structure is specifically designed to allow local heroes to emerge and compete directly against the established professional scene.
Why it matters
For the average VALORANT player and esports fan, this schedule represents a massive shift in how professional rosters are built and sustained. By providing significant financial support—potentially totaling over $1 million for a high-performing open team—Riot is lowering the barrier to entry, which could lead to more frequent upsets and a more dynamic competitive ecosystem. If you are an aspiring pro, the path to the main stage begins as early as November 2026 with the first set of Open Qualifiers.
For fans, the geographic diversity of the 2027 tour means more regions will have the opportunity to host top-tier play. While the source material focuses on the global tour structure and the shift toward more open qualification, the calendar provides a clear, long-term look at where the action will be, allowing fans to plan well in advance for one of the most accessible iterations of the VCT to date.
