Riot Games has officially confirmed that Manila, Philippines, will serve as one of the host cities for the inaugural VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Pacific Cup in 2027. This event is part of a massive structural shift for the professional VALORANT circuit, which will transition away from traditional regular-season league play toward a tournament-based format across more than 50 events in 15 global cities.
According to reporting by GosuGamers, the Manila tournament is scheduled for April 29 to May 23, 2027. It will run concurrently with regional Cups in Mexico City, Warsaw, and Wuhan. These regional events are crucial, as they serve as the primary qualification pathway for the upcoming Masters Valencia tournament.
A New Era of Competition
Under this revamped system, Riot Games is significantly altering how teams reach the international stage. The traditional Ascension promotion system is being replaced, allowing both partnered and non-partnered teams to compete via Open Qualifiers. Partnered teams will still receive direct entry into Kickoff events, but they are no longer guaranteed spots in later Cups, meaning they must perform consistently to stay in the running.
Riot has also introduced a financial support structure for non-partnered teams. Organizations that qualify for major events will receive guaranteed payments: US$100,000 for reaching a Kickoff or regional Cup, US$200,000 for Masters, and US$400,000 for Champions. Open Qualifiers for the 2027 season are slated to begin in November 2026.
Why it matters
For players and fans, this overhaul represents a much more accessible path to the professional circuit. By removing the restrictive promotion barriers, Riot is creating more chances for rising talent to break into the top tier. The tournament-based structure ensures that every regional Cup carries high stakes, as these are now the mandatory gates for qualifying into international Masters and Champions events.
While Riot has not yet confirmed the specific venue in Manila, ticket pricing, or the full match schedule, the move brings high-level competitive VALORANT to a major regional hub in the Pacific. Players should keep an eye out for updates on ticket sale dates, as the shift to a LAN-focused format with live finals suggests a significant investment in the in-person spectator experience for these regional stops.
