A fresh mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 is shaking up the open world by introducing a complex, AI-driven reputation and rivalry system inspired by Middle-earth: Shadow of War’s Nemesis System. As reported by IGN, the mod—titled “enRage” and created by modder nicklovin99—gives every NPC in the game a unique identity, set of personality traits, and dynamic opinions toward the player.

How the enRage System Works

The core of the enRage mod is a new tracking system that monitors NPC affiliations and their personal feelings toward Arthur Morgan. Whether it is the O’Driscoll Boys, the Lemoyne Raiders, or even the U.S. Army, every NPC is categorized into gangs or groups. When a player eliminates an NPC, their status and history can pass to other members of the organization. If you push a gang too far, the mod triggers hunting parties that actively track you across the map.

Beyond simple combat, the mod introduces an interaction menu that lets players hold injured NPCs at gunpoint to extract information about other gang members. It also adds an “X-ray” feature to view NPC skeletons and track physical ailments like paralysis or injuries. Furthermore, the mod uses AI to simulate a living world; NPCs now interact with one another independently, adopting pets, managing personal struggles like alcoholism, and starting their own internal feuds that occur regardless of the player’s involvement.

Development and AI Integration

The modder explicitly disclosed the use of AI in the project, noting in the Nexus Mods description that “Claude Code assisted in the creation of scripts and systems.” The release of enRage comes amidst a broader trend of AI-assisted modding projects that attempt to bridge the gap between different game engines and mechanics, often blurring the lines between standard modding and full-scale project remixes.

Why it matters

For players, this mod fundamentally changes the rhythm of Red Dead Redemption 2’s open world. Rather than interacting with generic NPC spawns, every encounter now carries the potential for long-term consequences and evolving rivalries. The added layer of systemic “gang wars” means that the world feels more unpredictable, as factions clash with or without your interference, making the environment feel more reactive and alive.

As this mod is currently in Early Access on Nexus Mods, players interested in installing it should monitor the project page for future updates, performance patches, and compatibility notes.
