CD Projekt Red has begun rolling out its latest update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, targeting the Switch 2 version of the game. According to Eurogamer, this patch is a direct response to community feedback, specifically addressing complaints about image quality and over-brightness that have persisted since the Remastered edition’s late September launch.

Visual clarity and technical fixes

The headline changes in patch 5.01 focus on image sharpening and resolution adjustments. By tweaking these settings, the developers aim to improve overall visual clarity and fidelity, specifically targeting the blurriness players reported when playing in handheld mode. Beyond resolution, the update brings the Switch 2 version in line with other console patches by adjusting lighting to tone down the brightness issues common to the Remastered release.

The update includes a laundry list of technical and gameplay fixes. Players should notice improvements to ladder animations, corrected skill bonus values, and a fix for Geralt’s stamina draining incorrectly during sprints and dodges. Additionally, the patch includes more robust graphics options, adding settings for Bloom, Light Shafts, and Depth of Field, alongside optimizations for Ray Tracing and Path Tracing.

Why it matters

This update is a significant win for players who felt the Remastered version of The Witcher 3 struggled with its transition to the Switch 2 hardware. If you’ve been putting off a playthrough because of the blurry image quality or the intense brightness, this patch aims to resolve those specific frustrations. Additionally, the update implements a fix for voiceover audio becoming quiet after menu navigation, which should make the experience much more polished.

For those invested in the game’s long-term health, the update also includes measures to protect save file data and optimizes cache handling for cross-platform mod support. Note that due to backend updates, you will be prompted to confirm your policy consent preferences again when you boot up the game. Additionally, the update adds Ukrainian text localization across all regions, increasing accessibility for the game’s audience.
