Wolves Esports keep 2027 VCT China hopes alive with opening Threshold victory
Wolves Esports have started their VCT Threshold China 2026 campaign on a high note, securing a 2-0 sweep against A Team in Shanghai.

Wolves Esports have started their VCT Threshold China 2026 campaign on a high note, securing a 2-0 sweep against A Team in Shanghai. According to reporting from Esports Insider, the victory on Wednesday, October 21, moves the team into the tournament’s quarter-finals and marks a critical step in their bid to reclaim a spot in the professional Valorant circuit for 2027.
Following a challenging season where the team lost its partner status for the 2027-2028 cycle, the VCT Threshold China event serves as a high-stakes lifeline. As reported by Sheep Esports, Wolves are one of four teams—alongside FunPlus Phoenix, Nova Esports, and Titan Esports Club—to lose their partnership as the league shrinks from ten teams to eight. The Threshold event, which operates similarly to the former Ascension format, offers a rare path back into the professional ecosystem, with two teams set to join VCT China as guest participants for 2027.
Tournament format and path to victory
The event, hosted at THE HUB Performing Arts Center in Shanghai, features thirteen teams competing for a coveted VCT China spot. The current Week 1 bracket consists of a single-elimination format involving five VCT China teams and seven national teams. Matches are played as best-of-threes, with the exception of the grand finals, which are best-of-fives.
Wolves’ opening series against A Team was hard-fought, with the first map lasting 43 minutes and the second extending to 54 minutes. This win serves as a measure of redemption for the Wolves roster, which consists of Spring, yosemite, Deryeon, aluba, and glacier. The team now faces an immediate test in the quarter-finals on October 22 against KeepBest Gaming, a team that handed them a 0-2 defeat in the China Evolution Series Act 3 earlier this year.
Why it matters
For Valorant fans and followers of the Chinese scene, this tournament represents the final chance for several established organizations to maintain their relevance in the VCT ecosystem. Because Wolves Esports, FunPlus Phoenix, Nova Esports, and Titan Esports Club are fighting to recover from the loss of their partnership status, the performance in this event dictates the professional future of these rosters.
Players should keep an eye on the schedule as the tournament progresses; the Week 1 final is slated for October 25, which will crown the first team to earn a 2027 VCT China slot. For teams that fall short in Week 1, a second opportunity exists in a Week 2 single-elimination playoff beginning October 27, ensuring that the road to the VCT remains open for top-performing national squads.
