Blizzard Entertainment is set to expand the Azeroth experience with the launch of World of Warcraft: Forever on November 4. According to an IGN report, this new iteration functions as a third pillar of the franchise alongside the modern and classic versions, aiming to keep the original feel intact while introducing significant system overhauls and content additions.
New Content and Class Expansions
WoW: Forever retains the original level 60 cap and slower-paced leveling experience. However, the game adds over 1,000 new quests, fresh dungeons, and 10- or 20-player raids. A major addition is Zephras Isle, a new starting zone that serves as the home for the Skyborne, a brand-new playable elven race. The Skyborne can join either the Horde or the Alliance; depending on their faction, they gain access to either the Shaman or Mage class, while both sides can play as Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, or Druids with exclusive druid forms.
Existing races are also receiving class updates, allowing for new combinations such as Undead Paladins, Dwarf Shamans, and Orc Mages. Blizzard has implemented visual upgrades including improved lighting, volumetric fog, and new shadow effects, all designed to respect the original game’s art style.
The Legacy System and Progression
To encourage alt-leveling, Blizzard is introducing the Legacy System. This account-wide progression mechanic allows players to complete ‘Legacy Challenges’—such as attaining PvP ranks, exploring the map, or completing dungeons—to earn Legacy Points. These points can be distributed across three talent trees: Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness. While each character can earn up to 29 points, they are capped at spending 16, offering flexibility in how players build out their various characters.
Why it matters
For players, WoW: Forever changes the landscape by modernizing core systems and adding fresh content across all level brackets, rather than focusing solely on the endgame. Because this version is included with existing WoW subscriptions or Game Time, players can jump in without an additional cost. The introduction of the Legacy System and new class combinations also provides a strong incentive to revisit earlier zones and level new characters.
Looking ahead, Blizzard has committed to supporting the game with ongoing patches and regular content updates, including new zones and storylines planned for the future. Fans interested in seeing more before the November 4 launch can tune in to the ‘Escape Together’ competition—a real-life escape room event based on the Scarlet Monastery—which will be streamed on the official Warcraft Twitch channel on October 23 at 10 a.m. PDT.
