Nintendo has officially announced that Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition is set to launch on 12th November. The reveal, which confirms the game is arriving for the company’s next-generation platform, took place during the surprise Pikmin Day Direct broadcast. This special announcement followed a warning from Nintendo that the broadcast would not feature any brand-new game announcements, focusing instead on this enhanced version of the title that originally launched on the Switch in July 2023.

During the Direct, legendary Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto introduced Japanese actor Fuka Koshiba as the new ambassador for the series. Additionally, Nintendo confirmed that 1st November has been officially established as Pikmin Day.

New features and demo details

The upcoming release introduces a fresh game mode titled Dandori Academy. According to the broadcast, this is a timed exam mode designed to test player efficiency. A showcase of the Gargantuan Garden exam demonstrated the gameplay loop, which tasks players with gathering gold nuggets before the clock runs out. Additionally, the Switch 2 version of the title will allow players to use voice commands to control Oatchi, the series’ signature canine companion.

For those looking to get a head start, a demo version of the game is scheduled to hit the Nintendo eShop on 2nd November. Nintendo confirmed that any progress made within this demo will carry over to the full game should you decide to purchase it. Current owners of the original Pikmin 4 on Switch will also have the option to purchase an upgrade pack via the eShop rather than needing to buy the full standalone edition again.

This release is part of a busy period for Nintendo, as the Switch 2 Edition is one of two major releases for the company this month, arriving alongside the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is scheduled for 5th November.

Why it matters

This release represents a significant update for Pikmin fans, particularly with the inclusion of the Dandori Academy mode adding new content to the title. For players who already own the game, the upgrade pack offers a cost-effective way to access these new features and the technical benefits of the Switch 2 version. By establishing a designated Pikmin Day and continuing to iterate on 2023 titles, Nintendo is maintaining momentum for its platform ecosystem alongside high-profile releases like the Ocarina of Time remake.
