If you ever wondered what it would be like to play a World of Warcraft campaign using Larian Studios’ engine, a new mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 has arrived to answer that question. Created by the modder SquallyDaBeanz, the ‘Forsaken’ mod takes players out of the D&D universe and drops them into an adventure based on the lore and geography of World of Warcraft, specifically the Tirisfal Glades region.
As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, the mod puts you in the shoes of a newly freed undead servant of the Lich King. Your primary goal is to carve out a life for yourself in a dangerous new world and fight to reclaim the kingdom of Lordaeron. The first act is currently available and is designed for characters between levels 1 and 5.
A New Kind of Questing
While Baldur’s Gate 3 is known for its dense, interconnected world, SquallyDaBeanz has focused on emulating the design philosophy of World of Warcraft. The map is designed to feel expansive, featuring over 20 distinct quests, various settlements, and dungeons to explore. To help you tackle the combat-heavy gameplay, you can recruit a party of three custom companions: Darnell the fighter, Isabella the mage, and Duesten the cleric. The modder noted that these companions are currently implemented in a temporary state to ensure players have a full party for combat, with a more robust overhaul planned for a future update.
Why it matters
For fans of Baldur’s Gate 3, this mod represents a massive departure from the game’s core D&D narrative. It is essentially a total conversion that trades Larian’s signature branching dialogue and complex secrets for a more linear, combat-focused experience reminiscent of classic MMO questing. Because it is disconnected from the main game’s plot, you will need to start a brand-new save file to play it.
Currently, the mod is a work-in-progress, and the developer has shared plans to add more class-specific dialogue, additional items, lore books, and cinematic cutscenes in the future. If you are interested in trying it out, you can find the files on Nexus Mods and enable them through the in-game mod manager. While there is no official timeline for the second act, the current release offers a solid foundation for those looking for a different flavor of adventure within the BG3 engine.
