The world of Gielinor is getting a refresh as the latest update for Old School RuneScape launches, signaling the start of ‘Quest Month.’ According to the official developer update, the game is rolling out two brand-new surprise quests alongside several quality-of-life improvements designed to make the questing experience smoother for both new and veteran players.

Questing QoL and New Content

To celebrate Quest Month, players now have more options in their Settings menu to filter quests by status, specifically showing those that are currently in progress or already completed. Several existing quests that previously lacked XP rewards have been updated to provide them; players who finished those specific quests before this update can claim their retroactive XP from the Lumbridge Guide or Perdu. Additionally, the quest ‘Daddy’s Home’ has been upgraded to a fully fledged quest, complete with a minimap icon to aid discovery.

Players will also notice a new rating system following quest completion, which allows them to rate their experience on a scale of zero to five via a chatbox prompt. This feature is enabled by default, though it can be toggled off in the settings menu.

Lumbridge Tidy-up and NPC Updates

Beyond quests, Lumbridge has undergone a significant visual and narrative cleanup. The update consolidates combat tutors into a single NPC named Harlan and updates the identities and roles of various tutors throughout the area. Notably, Hatius Cosantius has been moved from his spot in Lumbridge to the Falador pub, with Mikasi taking over as the local task master. Other NPCs have received dialogue updates to better fit the established lore, and several tutors have been removed, with their instructional duties shifted to local characters like the castle cook and Father Aereck.

Why it matters

This update is a major shift for the early-game experience in Lumbridge. By streamlining the tutor system and relocating NPCs like Hatius Cosantius, the developers are clearly aiming to create a more immersive and less cluttered entry point for brand-new players. If you are starting a new account or returning to the game, the Lumbridge changes are designed to make navigation and task tracking feel more intuitive.

Players should also keep an eye on the calendar, as the new Hardcore Worlds are scheduled to go live on November 4th at 11:00 UTC. Whether you are hunting for the new quest content or preparing for the high-stakes challenge of Hardcore mode, the game environment is currently in a state of transition.
