In the world of MMOs, some speedruns are measured in minutes, while others require a commitment that spans years. A player known as Coxie has officially set a new world record in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) for collecting every pet in the game as fast as possible, a feat that demanded a staggering 6,572 hours of playtime.

According to reporting from GamesRadar+, Coxie completed the collection of all 71 pets in just over 273 days of in-game time. To put the dedication into perspective, Coxie noted on social media that the account was created three years, nine months, and 23 days ago. This means the player spent roughly 20% of every hour—or 30% of his waking life—playing the game over the last four years to secure the record.

The grind of RNG and skill

Collecting every pet in OSRS is widely considered one of the most grueling challenges in the game. These companions are obtained through a variety of methods, including rare boss drops, minigames, and specific skilling activities. Drop rates often sit around the 1/5,000 range, forcing players to repeat difficult content countless times.

Some pets, like the Jal-Nib-Rek, require completing the Inferno—a high-level PvE challenge that only a small portion of the community can beat. Coxie’s final pet for this run, ironically, was “Beef,” a small cow with a relatively common 1/1,000 drop rate.

A record set to stand

Jagex, the developer behind Old School RuneScape, has officially verified Coxie’s achievement and his playtime statistics. The sheer scale of the grind is underscored by the current leaderboard; the second-place speedrunner is sitting at 13,728 hours of playtime, making Coxie’s record look incredibly secure for the foreseeable future.

Why it matters

For the average OSRS player, this record highlights the extreme depth and long-term goals available in the game. While most players may only see a few pets throughout their entire journey, Coxie’s achievement demonstrates both the RNG-heavy nature of high-end completionism and the intense level of persistence required to conquer it.

This record serves as a benchmark for the community, though it is unlikely that many players will attempt to replicate such a time-intensive feat. For those chasing their own pets, it remains a reminder that even the most “common” drops can remain elusive, and that RNG-based goals in massive multiplayer games are often the ultimate test of patience.
