The Avatar State Patch for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has officially arrived on Xbox Series X|S, marking the most significant update to the title since its launch earlier this year. As reported by Xbox Wire, this expansion introduces comprehensive UI overhauls, major character reworks, and a complete balance pass for the entire roster.
Reimagining Aang and Korra
The update centers on two powerhouse fighters who have received extensive visual and mechanical upgrades: Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra. According to the development team, the goal for these reimagined versions was to capture their specific roles within the series’ lore. Aang’s design has been adjusted to emphasize his status as the Avatar, with unique lighting effects and a kit built around overwhelming elemental power, including a new Level 4 super move that summons Avatar Roku.
Nightmare Korra has similarly been rebuilt to reflect her darker state from “The Legend of Korra,” featuring a moveset that blends slow, ghost-like movements with sudden, aggressive teleports and chain attacks. Combat Director Young noted that her kit was designed to lean into the “berserk” nature of her character, while the art team implemented unique visual effects, such as mercury-themed super moves, to distinguish her from the rest of the cast.
System Overhauls and Competitive Play
Beyond character-specific changes, the game has undergone a structural transformation. Players will notice a redesigned interface across menus, character selection, and in-match displays. The patch also introduces “Ranked Mode 2.0” and expands single-player offerings with “Story Mode+,” new difficulty settings, and dedicated tutorial and combo trials.
Every character on the roster has received balance adjustments to improve match fairness. Notable tweaks include improvements to Azula’s Ambition’s Spark move, which now features better tracking and flow-cancel capabilities, and a new ability for Sokka that allows him to cancel sword techniques into a boomerang toss after reaching specific hit milestones.
Why it matters
This update is a major milestone for the community, aiming to fulfill the original vision the developers had for the game at launch. For active players, the balance changes and the introduction of Ranked Mode 2.0 signal a push toward a more refined competitive experience. The added tutorials and difficulty settings also provide a lower barrier to entry for new players looking to jump into the brawling action.
Additionally, owners of the Deluxe Edition or those who pre-ordered the game can now participate in a month-long voting event to decide the final character of the Year 1 Pass. With Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong, and Bolin already confirmed for the pass, the community now has the chance to shape the roster’s future.
