Cyberpunk 2077 is experiencing a major resurgence on Steam, with player counts hitting their highest point since October 2023. According to reporting from GamesRadar+, the game reached a peak of 187,215 concurrent players over the weekend, a surge fueled by a combination of the recent 2.5 update, the launch of the second season of the Netflix series Edgerunners, and a 70% discount currently available on the platform.

Developer reaction and community feedback

CD Projekt Red has taken notice of the sudden influx of players. Paweł Sasko, the associate director for the franchise, expressed his appreciation on X, stating, “It’s been a hell of a weekend. Peak of 187k concurrent players on Steam alone, a lot of hilarious threads and meme clips, it all fills my heart with joy.”

Rather than just celebrating the numbers, the development team is actively soliciting player input on the state of the game. Sasko added, “Chooms, give us feedback, what we can improve, where we have missed the mark with 2.5? Your perception is everything.” This marks a continued commitment to the game, even as the studio remains at work on the sequel, currently referred to as Cyberpunk 2.

New content and impact

The 2.5 update has provided significant fresh content, including a new quest that serves as a prequel to the second season of Edgerunners. Additionally, the patch introduced support for adult mods on consoles, a move that highlights the game’s ongoing evolution years after its initial launch.

Why it matters

For players, this surge signifies that Night City remains a highly active environment, with developers still prioritizing patches and community-requested features like modding support. The renewed focus on the game—driven by both multimedia crossovers and active maintenance—suggests that the title will continue to receive support while the studio develops its next installment.

If you are currently playing on PC, the 70% discount makes this a prime time to jump back in or explore the new content added in the 2.5 update. Players should keep an eye on CD Projekt Red’s social channels, as the team is currently prioritizing community feedback to shape potential future adjustments.
