The long-awaited release of The Witcher 3 Remastered has finally arrived, and while many players are diving back into the Continent, the community is already split over the game’s new aesthetic. Specifically, players are noting that the updated lighting engine makes the game look significantly brighter than the original release, leading to a flatter, washed-out appearance in some environments.

The Bloom Fix

For those playing on PC, the solution is surprisingly straightforward. Players have discovered that simply toggling the “Bloom” setting to off in the graphics menu immediately restores a darker, higher-contrast look that feels closer to the atmosphere of the original 2015 title. The discovery has gained quick traction on social media and platforms like Reddit, where users have shared direct “before and after” comparisons, claiming the change provides an instant visual improvement.

While disabling bloom is the primary recommendation, some players are also finding success by adjusting other post-processing effects. Suggestions have been circulating to turn off blur, chromatic aberration, and vignetting alongside the bloom adjustment to further sharpen the game’s final image quality.

Console Limitations

While PC users have immediate control over these graphical settings, the situation is different for those playing on consoles. On systems like the PlayStation 5, there is no direct toggle for bloom. Players are left to experiment with the in-game brightness, contrast, and gamma sliders to try and mimic the desired aesthetic. CD Projekt Red has not yet provided an official update on whether they consider the current lighting levels a design choice or if further tweaks to the console graphics menu might be coming in a future patch.

Why it matters

For many fans, The Witcher 3 is defined by its moody, grim, and dark fantasy atmosphere. The shift in lighting in the remastered version represents a significant departure from the game’s signature look, which has sparked a heated debate regarding visual fidelity. If you find the current visuals too bright or lacking in depth, disabling bloom on PC is the quickest way to regain that classic look without sacrificing the other benefits of the remaster.

Players on consoles who are frustrated by the lack of customization options should monitor for future developer updates, though nothing has been confirmed at this time. For now, PC players have the most flexibility to tailor the experience to their personal preference.
